Carrbassett Valley is located in the heart of the western mountains of Maine approximately 2 hours north of Portland and 2 hours east of Bangor and 4.5 hours north of Boston. It is a 4-season, recreationally based community and home to Sugarloaf ski/golf resort and conference center, Maine Huts & Trails (system) Poplar Stream Hut and is, due to it's natural beauty and unique local population, a great place to live, work & play. There is a large snowmobile trail network that can take a rider all over the northern Franklin County area and beyond, a great variety of hiking/biking trails and numerous scenic lakes & ponds that offer some of the best fishing, boating, wildlife viewing in Maine. A small year round community of approx. 700 residents make up the local population but due to it's proximity to Portland, Bangor and Boston has a large and very loyal contingent of non-residents visiting, either vacation homes or rental properties, on any given weekend, holiday or vacation throughout the year. Carrabassett Valley is home to Carrbassett Valley Academy whose graduates include, US Olympic medalists, Kristin Clark, Bode Miller & Seth Wescott. With it's many many restaurants & pubs a visitor is bound to find a stellar meal and robust beverage with any choice they may make. According to the US Census, the town has a total area of 77.5 square miles of which, 77.4 square miles is land and 0.2 square miles is water. It is named after the Carrabassett River, which flows through the town. As of the 2000 census there were 399 people, 179 households, and 110 families residing in the town. In 2010 the town's population has grown to 761.
